Her favorite dining table and original built in buffet remain in the Dining Room while we added a contemporary oval chandelier, new warm grey textured dining chairs, soft robin’s egg blue and warm grey draperies, and sisal area rug over new Hevea hand hewn hardwood flooring. We retained the original woodwork to transition from the traditional to contemporary in the new kitchen and family living areas. The end result has created a warm, inviting environment.
Grey solid surface replaces the original tile top on the buffet. Brushed nickel contemporary pulls replace the former brass knobs. New brushed nickel columns add stability to the light bridge modernizing the buffet.
Former oak cabinetry was removed and replaced with tall full overlay door cabinets above as well as large drawer storage below adding storage and display area. Rearrangement of double ovens and refrigerator allowed for a trash compactor for the Kitchen. A gracious center island in contrasting cool grey hides a undercounter microwave drawer and pop up downdraft vent for their new electric stovetop.
Removing a short wall and desk opened space for a beverage center complete with sink, glassware storage, wine and liquor storage. Mirrored subway tiles add sparkle to the casual elegance of this special entertaining area.
Hand hewn Hevea wood planks and painted wicker counter stools are the perfect foil for the contemporary lines of the cabinetry in this traditional home. The brushed nickel counter legs repeat the three rectangles motif from the dining room buffet.
The former breakfast nook always seemed too small for a table and chairs with the window seat in what was also a pass through to the Living Room. Adding two small cocktail tables and lighting to the newly painted window seat creates an adult conversation lounge for morning coffee or evening cocktails. The perfect balance of cozy yet airy.
New upholstered cushions soften the window bench along with multi patterned pillows to add a spark of color to the soft warm and cool greys. Complementary roman shade valances add to the coziness of the new lounge. New drawers were made to replace the door fronts on the window seat making this storage much more accessible. The space generates a lush ambience and is a delightful place for leisure and entertaining.
A small powder room gains panache using the relaxed background of this warm and cool gray batik print wallcovering for the silver leaf finished mirror and elegant proportions of the Toto Soiree pedestal sink and Brizo Siderna brush nickel faucet. Hand hewn Hevea planks continue through this room.
Providing both up and down lighting, this wall sconce with mirrored nickel finish and bubble blown glass creates intriguing light patterns enlivening a windowless powder room.
My clients wanted to retain this curved staircase in the two-story entry. The combination of warm and cool tones of the carpet and furnishings link the traditional woodwork with the contemporary cabinetry and décor of the family living area. The inviting décor establishes an immediate impression of warmth and charm as guests enter the home.
The family room was spacious though dark. Soffit LED uplighting adds subtle overall illumination as down lights highlight the new cabinetry. A full wall oak entertainment center is replaced by floating center storage cabinets and shelving visually enlarging the living area. Hardwood and a warm gray area rug replaced wall to wall carpeting. Robin’s egg blue walls highlight the soft gray cabinetry.
A combination of traditional shelving and contemporary floating shelves continues our theme of mixing traditional and contemporary.
Round LED mirror, bubble accent of crackled glaze porcelain and cracked glass tile, crystal sconces – round, bubble motif continued. Warm gray with tones of Mist, Lagoon, Ocean and Jewel glazes blend with Benjamin Moore’s Sylvan Mist Matte Finish paint.
The herringbone pattern of the gray porcelain tile adds visual width and depth to a smallish bathroom. Warm gray finished vanity with quartz solid surface countertop has plenty of storage space.
While the current tub/shower remained, a niche and new tile was added to the surround along with new brush nickel plumbing fixtures. The bubble mosaic tile is the effervescent highlight of the vertical accent with white quartz solid surface niche shelves.
Originally this window was over a whirlpool garden tub. Replacing the tub with a gray double sink vanity with dark solid surface allowed them to enjoy their favorite view regularly. Placing vanities in front of windows is always a challenge when it comes to mirrors. Here, we have used two-sliding pivot mirrors allowing for easy adjustment and flat wall storage when not in use. Travertine rectangular tiles create a pinwheel design with Pompeian red marble tiles on the floor.
A new larger shower with invisible drain and double shower heads uses the same rectangular travertine look tile with Pompeian red marble. The sleek glass semi frameless shower door is accented with brushed nickel hardware.
A generous niche is framed by the matching Pompeian red molding.
The Lower Level Bath accompanies a guest room, movie and game area. Completely remodeled the bath now features new slate and accent tile behind a new vanity cabinet
A soapstone look quartz countertop is the perfect complement to the slate, stone and cracked glass mosaic accent. Brushed nickel faucet and wire brushed nickel mirror
The former shower is upgraded with generous rectangular slate tiles with stone, slate and cracked glass mosaic accent stripe.
